I began my career as a Registered Nurse (RN) in 2011 before pursuing a second degree as a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying).
Since graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2011, I have accumulated work experience in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Rankin Inlet, Nunavut, and Toronto, Ontario.
During the pandemic, I worked as a RN while completing my Master’s degree and training in the field of psychotherapy. This increased my understanding of the powerful and symbolic meaning of life, health, and the losses that we have rapidly witnessed. In my professional life, I witness end of life daily, and most of the time I am the only contact helping critically ill patients make this transition, by providing not only nursing skills, but compassionate support. The Covid-19 pandemic has created drastic changes for frontline healthcare workers battling this virus, as well as for members of our community that are struggling with grief and loss.
Loss covers a wide spectrum, as grief occurs not only when losing a loved one, but also when ending relationships with friends, partners, or when losing financial security, physical health, emotional and psychological health, and general well-being.
It is this holistic view that prompted me to obtain my Master's degree and training in the field of psychotherapy. I want to connect with individual clients on a deeper level by understanding their story, rather than focusing on just their medical diagnosis. This in-depth understanding allows me to access a wider set of tools and skills I have acquired from my experience and education to help my clients.
